Camaraderie and competition are back at it for another delicious go-around with the 12th iteration of In Cahoots! A Collaboration of Craft. Each year, the Red Stag Supperclub and The Growler Magazine bring together craft brewers to create special beers for Red Stag’s free block party, but 2018 is the biggest yet.
Seventeen breweries and one distillery formed nine teams to create nine limited release collaboration beers that will debut at the August 5 party.
In a first for the festival, Bang Brewing joined forces with Tattersall Distilling on a special spirits tinged collaboration beer. Not only is this the first year that a distillery is thrown into the mix, but a few out-of-state breweries have been tapped to participate alongside local brewers as well. The Northeast Minneapolis micromaltsters / brewers at Able Seedhouse + Brewery teamed up with Naperville, Illinois’ Solemn Oath Brewery, an award-winning brewery known for their West Coast, Belgian, and barrel-aged styles of beer. Minneapolis mainstay Fulton Brewing collaborated with Longmont, Colorado–based Left Hand Brewing Company, famous for their Nitro Milk Stout.
The list of teams is rounded out by local favorites, including Bauhaus and Bent Paddle, Schell’s and Sociable Cider Werks, Modist and Surly, Dangerous Man and Barrel Theory, Pryes and Wild Mind, and Indeed and Fair State.
You, the thirsty drinker, are in charge of crowning the champion duo, and the folks at FairVote Minnesota will be running the balloting and educating attendees about ranked-choice voting. A portion of the event proceeds will be given to the winning team’s charity of choice. In between the sampling and sipping (plus, there will also be Bootlegger cocktails, wine, cans, non-alcoholic drinks on-site), make sure to check out the rad live performances and interactive demos from The Aviary Aerial Fitness and FlyGirl Productions, as well as a robust music lineup from MC Foxy Train, The Shackletons, The Lonesome Losers, Epitome No Question, Monica LaPlante, Romantica, Black Market Brass, and headliner Dwynell Roland.
Able Seedhouse + Brewery and Solemn Oath
Minneapolis, Minnesota meets Naperville, Illinois with Able’s and Solemn Oath’s collab beer. It’s a rye pale ale brewed with Able’s malts, Solemn Oath’s Belgian yeast, and a “few sweet hops,” including Eukanots.
Modist and Surly
Summertime and the sippin’ is easy, at least, that’s why Modist and Surly are going for with their Rad Summer, brewed with red grapefruit and electrolytes.
Dangerous Man and Barrel Theory
Dangerous Man and Barrel Theory dreamt up a tart, tiki drink-inspired IPA conditioned on passionfruit, mango, coconut, and a touch of citrus.
Pryes and Wild Mind
Forêt de Pêche
These two Minneapolis breweries put their brewing heads together to craft Forêt de Pêche, aka “Peach Forest.” It’s a peach passionfruit American wild ale.
Bang and Tattersall
For the first time ever, a distillery is in the In Cahoots! competition, teaming up with Bang Brewing. They’re calling it a genever-inspired ale, made with “all-organic malts, Kernza, hops, black currants, and select botanicals.”
Indeed and Fair State
Indeed and Fair State are also throwing a radler into the In Cahoots! ring with their Go Halfsies beer, a medium-bodied and effervescent grapefruit radler.
Fulton and Left Hand
On The Other Hand
Make way for Colorado’s Left Hand Brewing at the block party as they join forces with Fulton. Attendees can expect a “dry IPA” from the dup, as the Pilsner base malt beer is made with Nelson Sauvin, Galaxy, and Mosaic hops.
Bauhaus and Bent Paddle
Black Hole Sun
Bauhaus and Bent Paddle’s In Cahoots! beer is deemed Black Hole Sun, a petite saison with blackberry and lemon.
Schell’s and Sociable Cider Werks
Planetary Gear Box
Planetary Gear Box is the name behind Schells and Sociable’s beer this year. What’s is it? Put simply: “Apple raspberry sour.”
