Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, founded in 1997 in Austin, Texas, announced a new location in Woodbury is set to open in May 2018. The chain has theaters throughout Texas and several other states, and this will be its first in Minnesota.

The nine-screen theater, formerly the Woodbury Lakes theater, will house 940 luxury recliners equipped with footrests, plus a full-service bar and restaurant, Vetted Wall, with a bounty of 32 local beers on tap, according to a press release.

“My team and the Alamo Drafthouse brand could not be more excited about our first location in Minnesota,” said Alamo Drafthouse Minnesota Chief Operations Officer Bill DiGaetano in the press release. “As a guest of Alamo Drafthouse since 2001 and an owner and employee since 2011, I love this brand and cannot wait to bring it to this great state.”

Moviegoers will have the option to have food delivered right to their seat. Despite the perfect pairing of dinner and a movie, guests are advised to mind their manners. The Drafthouse website describes a “zero tolerance” policy for talking or cell phone usage during the movies, noting that the theaters “aren’t afraid to kick anyone rude enough to start texting their friends during a show right out of the theater.” Bravo.

“Alamo Drafthouse is ‘For Movie Lovers by Movie Lovers,’” DiGaetano says, “so to all the cinefiles out there we are coming your way soon!”
