To all the supporters of Gray Duck Media and The Growler Magazine:
Today I made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend operations of Gray Duck Media, the parent company of The Growler Magazine, effective Monday, March 23. This decision certainly wasn’t easy to make and wasn’t made with myself in mind. It was made in an effort to ensure the long-term future of the company and of my employees so that they will have a place to come back to within a month or in the very near future.
The working plan is to still release the April issue of The Growler, which will hit the streets in two weeks, but to suspend the May issue. Hopefully, we will be back to business as usual for the June edition.
For our company, 99% of our revenue comes from advertisers and event revenue. But with advertisers pausing (and our sales staff not wanting to ask new advertisers for their business when they are also dealing with the economic downturn from the coronavirus) and the uncertainty of whether or not we will be able to put on the Pride Beer Dabbler and the Summer Beer Dabbler, we need to make a short term sacrifice so we don’t find ourselves in a hole we can’t dig ourselves out of. In order to ensure there is a home to come back to, we simply need to hit the pause and wait for some light at the end of the tunnel.
We hope like hell our partners will still be there for us in a month’s time. We hope like hell the virus gets contained. I hope like hell my team stays healthy and makes it through this. I hope like hell I’m making the right decision.
It’s been a hell of a ride and I hope we can pull through this. If you’ve ever picked up an issue of The Growler and want to help support a local, free, and independent publication, we have a page where you can donate money to the magazine. (Note: These donations would not be eligible as a tax write-off). If you are an advertiser or partner of the magazine, thank you for your support. Please contact your sales representatives with any questions or concerns.
Stay safe, be healthy, and thanks for the good times. We hope to have many more in the future.
