Craft Cocktails: How to Make a Mean Hot Toddy


Autumn Spice Bitters

Follow the instructions for the Easy & Oskey Naked kit, adding the following base flavoring agents in Step 2:

12 g           allspice

3½ Tbsp cinnamon granules

1½ tsp     whole cloves

2½ tsp     mace

Crush the above ingredients, then add:

1/8 tsp    galangal

1/8 tsp    nutmeg

Brown Sugar Mint Simple Syrup

1 cup (210 g)                  brown sugar

1 cup (210 g)                  water

1 cup or large bunch   mint leaves


Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, add mint leaves, and allow them to steep in the mixture for 2 hours. Strain.

The Hot Toddy

1 cup        hot Verdant Laoshan Apothecary Green Tea

1 Tbsp     brown sugar–mint simple syrup

1 oz          Pusser’s Rum

1/8 tsp    Easy & Oskey Autumn Spice Bitters

garnish   Meyer lemon and mint leaf

* Correction: In the print edition, The Hot Toddy ingredient list mistakenly included 3/4 oz of Campari. There is no Campari in this recipe.
