Beer Smarts: Evaluating Beer and Pairing it with Food

Attention beer drinkers who want to increase their learning and enjoyment of all things beer. Paige (Latham) Didora, Modist’s education specialist, is leading a six-week beer education program that will be held in the taproom on Mondays beginning November 21.Each one-hour session will focus on a specific topic related to the brewing process and will also feature guest speakers, behind-the-scenes looks at brewing equipment and processes, and beer samples. Tickets to “Beer Smarts” retail for $50 (for all six sessions). All sessions will go s follows: 6-7pm social hour, 7-8pm education, 8-9pm additional social hour. Seats limited to 50. Purchase tickets here.

Here’s a breakdown of the schedule:

Monday 11/21: A Malty History
-Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about malted grain and milling.

Monday 11/28: Just Add Water
-A focus on water and water quality

Monday 12/5: Boil it, Hop it, Spin it, Cool it
-Trace the brewing process and have a focus conversation on hops

Monday 12/12: Magic!
-A focus on yeast and the impact on flavors and aromas

Monday 12/19: Good Beer Gone Bad
-A conversation on off-flavors, their sources, and the importance of proper packaging and storage

Monday 1/2/17: Evaluating Beer and Pairing it with Food
-How to evaluate a beer and the basics of food and beer pairing
