For the past few years, August Schell Brewing Company’s Noble Star series has helped put mixed-culture beers on the map in Minnesota and beyond. The Berliner weiss-style beers are aged in restored cypress fermentation tanks Schell’s purchased in 1936 and many are aged with fruit, including the newest beer in the series, Harmony of Spheres, which was aged on gooseberries.

Now, after purchasing an abandoned farm on the outskirts of New Ulm in 2014 and constructing a new facility for production of the Noble Star beers, the newly-minted Starkeller Brewing Company is opening its doors the the public for a soft opening this weekend.

Schell’s Brewmaster Jace Marti, who started the Noble Star series as a pet project, gave us a preview of the Starkeller yesterday.
