C is for… Craft Beer

We know this is an obvious one, but it’s worth noting what craft beer has been able to do in terms of growth and national expansion in the past few years. To say the event has grown since the first GABF in 1982 would be a massive understatement. In 1982, the GABF played host to 800 attendees, sampling 40 beers from 22 breweries. Comparatively, in 2013, 49,000 attendees were offered over 3,100 beers from 624 breweries at the festival. During the media luncheon, The Brewers Association’s of Craft Beer Program Director, Julie Herz, said that there are currently as many as 1,600 breweries in the country in the process of opening their doors. Herz also said that the Great American Beer Fest has expansion plans to accommodate for future years’ brewery and attendee increases.
