F is for… Fitger’s

Fitger’s Brewhouse Master Brewer Dave Hoops is no stranger to the GABF—this year’s festival was his 22nd. Hoops was on hand at the Media Luncheon offering glasses of the brewery’s Gooseberry Gose, named for the popular Gooseberry Falls State Park in Northern Minnesota. Hoops was asked to speak about the industry and Minnesota’s potential as a center for craft beer. When asked about the effect of evolving brewing laws in Minnesota Hoops said, “From a brewer’s perspective I’m thrilled about the laws because we’ve had close to 30 breweries open up since [the taproom law was passed], all of course production breweries, save one brewpub.”

Hoops also gave his opinion on the fact that Minnesotan brewpubs still cannot distribute their beer like production breweries, saying, “I’m not complaining because we have tied house opportunities and we have the opportunity to keep our beer fresh, keep it in my eyes, and never have to go through a distributor.”

Fitger’s Brewhouse is two-time winner at the GABF and represented Minnesota well at the Media Luncheon and at the festival where they served their Gooseberry Gose, 1100 Wheatwine, Big Boat Oatmeal Stout, Hoppelujah IPA, and Timmy’s Edelstoff.
