The northernmost beer festival in Minnesota is returning to Caribou Highlands Lodge on Lutsen Mountain, July 10 and 11.
Organizers of the Hopped Up Caribou Beer Festival categorize the event as more of a beer retreat than a traditional beer festival because of the opportunity to connect one-on-one with brewers and the fact that many attendees stay a night or two at the resort. There are also several ticket options that give beer lovers access to different special events throughout the weekend.
For those who opt for the “Full Barrel Weekend” ticket package, the festivities kick off with a Friday-evening reception. There, guests have a chance to mingle with brewers, sample specialty beers, and snack on high-end, beer-themed hors d’oeuvres (last year’s menu included stout-drenched oysters, rosemary-kölsch shrimp skewers, and hefeweizen banana bread). A bloody Mary breakfast buffet on Saturday is also included in the package, as well as a welcome six-pack beer sampler in your room upon arrival.
Saturday afternoon is when the bulk of the fun takes place, namely a beer garden and tasting event that runs from 3–6pm, with music courtesy Big Wave Dave and the Ripples. Listed below are the breweries that will be on hand to sate thirsty festivalgoers’ beer cravings, with others likely to be added.
