Mother of the Gut Ale is “going to smell like it can heal you,” according to Bent Paddle Brewing Company brewer Bjorn Erickson. That’s because the Belgian-style pale ale is infused with chamomile.
Ben Smith, a lead brewer at Surly Brewing, said each brewery was thinking of a botanical vibe when their collaboration was discussed. Even though both breweries were on the same page from the start, multiple iterations were explored before the chamomile concept was developed.
“It’s a fun ingredient and readily available,” Erickson says. “It’s going to be a great summer drinking beer. This beer is going to be bright, fresh, and popping; fruity with a nice herbal twist.”
