The Mash-Up: Summer Sours and Wheats in the Heat

With well over 100 breweries now pouring their beer in Minnesota, there’s always something new to try. To keep you up-to-date, we present The Mash-Up—our weekly rundown of new beers and seasonal releases in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries. It’s time to celebrate summer with low-ABV sours, the last round of breakfast-themed beers for Saturday’s Brunch-A-Palooza, and numerous fruit infusions.

Also debuting on the local scene are new IPAs from Bank, Eastlake, Lupulin, and Loony’s Brew. Modist is debuting Deviation 007 and Lift Bridge is releasing non-alcoholic root beer in tallboy cans.

Bad Weather Brewing 

  • Grapefruit Radler – A beer cocktail from their housemade grapefruit soda and Migration blonde ale for GetKnit’s Brunch-A-Palooza on June 3 at Upper Landing Park in St. Paul.

Badger Hill Brewing

  • Minne-Ale Kolsch with cherry and lime – Their May 30 weekly infusion keg.
  • It’s Tangerine-Yo – Traitor IPA infused with blood orange for Brunch-A-Palooza.

Bank Brewing 

  • Money – A tropical and juicy IPA.

Bauhaus Brew Labs

  • Blood Orange Wonderstuff – This orange-infused version of Wonderstuff is coming to Brunch-A-Palooza.

Bent Paddle Brewing

  • Hopmosa IPA – A golden IPA with floral and citrus aromatics, infused with orange zest for the Brunch-A-Palooza crowd on June 3.

Broken Clock Brewing

  • Stand Up Stout – New from Northeast’s newest brewery co-op, available at their grand opening celebration this weekend.

Castle Danger Brewing 

  • Orange Cream Ale – The brewery calls this Brunch-A-Palooza creation slightly sweet, smooth and soft.

Drekker Brewing 

  • Millions of Peaches – Peach Kölsch. 5.2% ABV, 14 IBU.
  • Pushing Daisies – A Belgian-style witbier with added chamomile. 4.8% ABV, 17 IBU.

Eastlake Craft Brewery

  • Achilles Heel IPA – American IPA. 6.0% ABV.

Fair State Brewing 

  • Grapefruit-Infused Cromulence – Fair State embiggens Cromulence for Brunch-A-Palooza.

Flat Earth Brewing

  • Minnehaha Mosaic Session Ale – A new, limited-edition beer available in stores now.

Founders Brewing

  • reDANKulous – Return of the dank. This GABF medal-winning imperial red ale is 9.5% ABV and 90 IBU, combining malty sweetness and tropical hops. It will be sold in four-packs of 12oz. bottles June through September.

Herkimer Pub and Brewery

  • American Red Ale – “A bright red hue and a cascading creamy head,” says the brewery. 6.0% ABV, 55 IBU.

Indeed Brewing 

  • Waffle Loral – Take the Derailed Loral and add granola, maple syrup, and stawberries. Available at Brunch-A-Palooza.

Lake Monster Brewing

  • Bootstrap Coffee Stout – Lake Monster collaborates with Bootstrap Coffee Roasters for a “rich, creamy stout with a kick.”

Lift Bridge Brewing

  • Peaks & Prairies Pale Ale – A collaboration with Odell Brewing made with Minnesota blue corn, wheat, and Colorado huckleberries. It’s the second collaboration beer for Taps & Tables available June 1–30 exclusively at participating restaurants and bars. A portion of proceeds from every pint of the beer sold will benefit Wishes & More. Learn more here.
  • Root Beer – Previously a taproom-exclusive, Lift Bridge Root Beer comes to 16 oz. cans on June 1, including a limited time float special at Sebastian Joe’s ice cream shops. There will be a June 10 special event.
  • Tart Peach Farm Girl – Farm Girl aged with natural peach and lactic acid, available at Brunch-A-Palooza.

Loony’s Brew

  • Lost Bay IPA – A hoppy IPA made with Vertical Malt in Bemidji. 5.4% ABV, 59 IBU.
  • Stubborn Moose Dry Stout – 5.2% ABV, 40 IBU.
  • Voyageur Pale Ale – A pale ale featuring Magnum and East Kent Golding hops. 4.7% ABV, 39 IBU.

Lupulin Brewing

  • Hooey – A 60 IBU, 6.2% ABV hazy IPA that started hitting retail stores yesterday.

Modist Brewing

  • Deviation 007 – Modist makes “an American version of a Japanese lager,” using rice, Premium Extra Pale Pilsner Malt, Carafoam, and Soriachi Ace hops. 5.2% ABV.
  • Double Shot First Call – Extra espresso in this Brunch-A-Palooza offering.

Northbound Brewpub & Smokehouse

  • Nectarine-Infused Hefeweizen – A limited time offering at the brewpub.

Oliphant Brewing

  • Somos Extremos – Coffee golden ale. 6.5% ABV, crowlers and taproom.
  • King Beezo – An IPA made with Polaris and Amarillo hops, plus local honey. 6.0% ABV, crowlers and taproom.
  • Grauman’s Center – A foreign export stout aged in bourbon barrels. 9.0% ABV, taproom only.

Omni Brewing Co.

  • The Hefeweizen – “Hints of banana and clove,” says the brewery. 4.5% ABV, 9 IBU.

Sociable Cider Werks

  • Grapefruit Freewheeler with Fresh Mint – “More mouth feel, more bright acidity, and more effervescence than most cider,” says Sociable about this Brunch-A-Palooza concoction.

Summit Brewing Company

  • Golden Ale Beermosa – Orange juice blended with beer, with notes of lemon zest, grapefruit and mango. Available at Brunch-A-Palooza.

Surly Brewing Company

  • Fiery Hell – Surly Hell, aged on red oak and infused with peppers. Available at Brunch-A-Palooza.

Third Street Brewhouse

  • Brewer’s Tears Lager – The first of a new Historic Series, Third Street and Cold Spring are unveiling a pre-Prohibition recipe discovered in the brewery’s archives. The beer debuts today in Third Street’s taproom and will be available soon on store shelves.

Tin Whiskers Brewing Company

  • Wheatstone Bridge Marmalade – Tin Whiskers wheat beer with additional sweet orange for Brunch-A-Palooza.

Town Hall Brewing Company

  • Apricot Wheat – Available now at Town Hall Seven Corners.

Urban Growler Brewing Company

  • Cinnamon Roll Porter – “The perfect bun in a glass,” proclaims GetKnit, who are hosting Brunch-A-Palooza.

Vine Park Brewing Company

  • Bloody Bonkers IPA – A West Coast IPA that’s new to the St. Paul brew on premise operation.

  • India-Style Black Ale – This limited-edition beer is back on tap this weekend at Summit’s Beer Hall.

  • Dancy Pants – More Lady Gaga themed beers have been unveiled for Pride Dabbler on June 23 at Loring Park, including this version of Wonderstuff, infused with pomegranate and glitter.

Birch’s on the Lake

  • Wheat IPA – Made with wheat and Citra hops. 5.0% ABV.

Boom Island Brewing Company

  • Cuvée Rosé de Boom – Back in 750-milliliter bottles for Boom Days, July 14-16. A blend of pinot grigio and Belgian blonde ale.

  • I Like It Rough – A ruby red raspberry imperial IPA for the Pride Dabbler on June 23.

  • Bloody Mary – A new sour, available at Pride Dabbler.

  • Bittersweet Ol’ Queen – Maple Island gets creative with this coconut, caramel and maple bock for Pride Dabbler.

Odell Brewing

  • Brazzle – Odell will soon release their third Cellar Series bottle of 2017, a barrel-aged golden raspberry ale, made with golden raspberries that are less tart than their red counterparts. 5.4% ABV, 750-milliliter bottles.

Urban Growler Brewing

  • Grodziskie – Releasing at Urban Growler’s 3rd Annual Polish Heritage Party, June 7, 11:00am-10:00pm, this traditional Polish beer is brewed with oak-smoked wheat malt. Light and crisp with a distinctive smokiness.
  • Kölsch Style – A refreshing beer that has the crispness of a lager and the light fruitiness of an ale. On tap June 8.
  • Hayloft Series™ Plow to Pint® Honey IPA –Brewed annually to celebrate the spring season and busy bees, this year’s West Coast style IPA has Minnesota harvested wildflower honey from the Bare Honey Company. Buzzing with a myriad of flavors from the El Dorado & Amarillo hops, this beer finishes sweet with citrusy hints of orange rind and honey. Release date TBA.

Waconia Brewing Company

  • Americano Coffee Ale – Pride Dabbler will see the debut of this golden chocolate coffee ale.
