Dark Knight, a perennial crowd pleaser at Barley John’s Brewpub in New Brighton is set to make its production debut in packaged form this fall at new production facility Barley John’s Brewery of New Richmond, Wisconsin. The bourbon aged, double fermented Old 8 Porter has been a fan favorite for years.

Barley John’s is hosting four teaser events this summer, starting with the release of a 1/6 barrel at Village Pub this past Sunday. While those supplies were limited, Barley John’s will team with Northbound Smokehouse, Stanley’s, and potentially one more bar for future events before the beer officially comes out in the fall.

“There are no concrete plans to tap it at the taproom,” says brewer Bob McKenzie, unless there is a surplus from their current batch. “If we have any partial kegs after filling,” he says, “We will likely put it on.”

Between Dark Knight, Dark Knight Returns (the same base beer aged in a subdued, previously used barrel), and the original Old 8 Porter, Barley John’s Brewpub has won the Winterfest Snowshoe award in 2007, 2012, 2013, 2015, and again in 2016.

For those who can’t wait until fall for the high gravity beer, keg tappings will take place at Stanley’s on July 13, at Northbound Smokehouse on July 20, and at another unconfirmed tapping to take place in St. Paul (more details forthcoming).
