An interest in the sour program at Northeast Minneapolis’ Fair State Brewing Cooperative led the folks at San Diego’s Modern Times Beer to pursue a collaboration between the two breweries. Fair State head brewer Niko Tonks is heading to San Diego this weekend to help brew a beer they’re calling The Shoulder of Orion, a pale hoppy lager made with Huell Melon hops.

Fair State President and CEO Evan Salle is excited about the project after he helped Modern Times pour at their Festival of Funk in San Diego back in March. “Modern Times is well known for their passion for all things hoppy, and we certainly love our pale lagers. So this is a perfect blend of our unique styles,” says Sallee.
