FINNEGANS and Kraus-Anderson broke ground yesterday, April 28, on a new three story brewery-hotel complex in Downtown Minneapolis.

Kraus-Anderson unveiled its master plan to remake a block in Elliot Park, between Portland and 5th avenues between 8th and 9th streets near downtown Minneapolis, back in August 2015. The building will be the home of its new headquarters, a 17-story apartment tower, a park, a seven-story boutique hotel, and the new FINNEGANS microbrewery.

The hotel/microbrewery mash-up will be the first of its kind in Minnesota and has been nicknamed a “brewtel.” An outdoor atrium will link the hotel and brewery.

The plan will allow FINNEGANS to shift all its production from Summit Brewing in St. Paul, where it contracts its roster of Irish-style beers, to the new brewery in Minneapolis. Also included within FINNEGANS’ building will be an event center and a social innovation center/co-working incubator office space–dubbed the “Finnovation Lab”–on the third floor.
