Harpoon Brewery collaborates with cymbal company, Zildjian

Harpoon and Zildjian's Secret Alloy Ale

Prepare your palate to rock.

Boston-based Harpoon Brewery teamed up with renowned cymbal manufacturer, Avedis Zildjian Company, to create a special pale ale as part of its 100 Barrel Series. Introduced in 2003, the series showcases the brewing talents of Harpoon’s employees, with a unique release every couple of months.

“Music is part of our daily lives at the brewery—and to us it’s a big part of loving beer and loving life,” says Dan Kenary, Harpoon CEO and Co-Founder about the inspiration for the collaboration. “In fact, one of our resident drummers played on the brew deck on the day this beer was being brewed. So not only was this beer musically inspired, it’s musically infused!”

With its music-making roots beginning in 1623 in Istanbul, Avedis Zildjian Company has crafted high-quality cymbals for 15 generations. After relocating to the U.S. in 1929, the world’s largest cymbal manufacturer has worked side-by-side with artists across many genres, such as jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, and classical.

Riffing off Zildjian’s metallic mixture of 80% copper, 20% tin, Secret Alloy Ale is brewed with an 80/20 split of caramel malts. The result is a copper-colored, 7.2% ABV, 41 IBU ale with sweet hints of mango and passion fruit.

Secret Alloy Ale is available now until September within Harpoon’s distribution footprint.
