The end of summer: a time to sink your teeth into perfectly ripened sweet corn alongside hundreds of thousands of fellow fairgoers at the Great Minnesota Get-Together. As one of the quintessential Fair foods, it was only a matter of time before someone worked Minnesota-grown sweet corn into a beer, and this year Lakes & Legends Brewing Company will do just that.
The Loring Park brewery will debut Sweet Corn Summer Ale at this year’s State Fair exclusively at the O’Gara’s at the Fair booth on the corner of Dan Patch Ave. and Cosgrove St.
Lakes & Legends purchased hundreds of pounds of corn from Untiedt’s Vegetable Farm in Monticello, Minnesota, and added the kernels to the mash the day after the corn was picked to extract the sugar and impart its flavor into the finished product. The result is a light, slightly sweet, 5.1% ABV, 31 IBU summer ale.
This year’s Minnesota State Fair runs Aug. 25 to Sept. 5.
