An announcement made via Twitter this morning confirms that Mucci’s Italian will officially open tomorrow evening, Friday, February 19, at 5pm. The opening will continue into the weekend, Saturday 5pm-11pm and Sunday 5pm-9pm, no reservations, walk-ins only. Followers of The Growler’s Instagram will be treated to a behind-the-scenes look at Mucci’s opening day via a #GrowlerDayintheLife takeover of our feed.
The restaurant at 786 Randolph Avenue in St. Paul is the brainchild of chef Chris Uhrich and restaurateur Tim Niver of Saint Dinette and Strip Club Meat & Fish. The focus is no frills, old school, red-sauced Italian comfort foods.

The pizzas are served “Montanara-style,” deep-fried rounds of puffy dough, topped and broiled until hot and crispy. Other dishes served at a preview dinner last month, and likely to be included on the menu, included lasagna, meatballs, cured meats, and fritto misto. Dishes teased on their social media in the last few days include lamb shanks, and an array of fresh pastas, including agnolotti and campanelle.

Uhrich developed a reputation for special doughnuts made during brunches at The Strip Club Meat and Fish. Once the rush of opening week passes, expect doughnuts for sale early on weekend mornings.
