Great American Beer Festival, the nation’s largest beer festival with 800 breweries pouring 4,000 beers, came to a close Saturday, but not before 11 Minnesota breweries were awarded with 12 medals in the 2018 GABF competition, four of which were gold.

Duluth’s Bent Paddle Brewing Company won gold in the classic Saison category for its Saison. St. Paul’s Summit Brewing Company continued its winning ways with a gold for its Keller Pils in the Kellerbier or Zwickelbier category. Minneapolis’ Lakes & Legends Brewing Company won their first gold medal in the Field Beer category for its Cool For the Summer, a saison with cucumber and mint. And Steel Toe Brewing of St. Louis Park was awarded gold in the Export Stout category for its Dissent, and tacked on a silver for its Provider Ale in the English-Style Summer Ale category.

Minnesota raked in three additional silver medals: Eastlake Craft Brewery Kirby Pucker No. 21 in the Fruited American-Style Sour Ale category; Spilled Grain Brewhouse of Annandale False Hope in the Other Strong Beer category; and Insight Brewing Sunken City in the Specialty Saison category.

Four more breweries from Minnesota were awarded bronze medals: Modist Brewing Co. won for First Call in the Coffee Beer category; The Freehouse won for No. 3 Brown in the English-Style Brown Ale category; Utepils Brewing Co. won for Alt 1848 in the German-Style Altbier category; and Tin Whiskers won for Wheatstone Bridge in the Herb and Spice Beer category.
