Minnesota State Fair // 1265 Snelling Avenue North, St. Paul

August 24 & 25
Minnesota Renaissance Festival // 12364 Chestnut Boulevard, Shakopee
Contrary to popular belief, the Renaissance Festival isn’t just about overflowing cleavage, turkey legs, questionable English accents and discussion about the finer points of the 1979 version of the Dungeon Masters Guide… there’s also beer! This year, Byggvir’s Big Beer Cup returns to the Renaissance Festival for a 7th time. This competition showcases historic, English and European beers and includes some pretty sweet prizes, including a chance to have your beer brewed by Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery. Entries are due by August 11th.
Somerset Amphitheater // 715 Spring Street, Somerset, WI // 1-5pm // $25-45
The Border Battle Beer Fest returns to Somerset on September 7th this year and once again we’re looking at a knock-down, drag-out battle to the bottom of the glass. (A little secret… Minnesota is going to win…) In any case, like any beer festival, look for plenty of great beer, music and food. For those of you inclined to imbibe to the point that you’re making random friends and slapping cops on the butt, there are camping options as well!
