A rich bouquet of dates, dark cherry and pecan praline is balanced by notes of leather and tobacco. A warming, boozy spice cuts the brown sugar sweetness on the palate. Delicately spiced with coriander, cardamom, mace, grains of paradise, and sweet orange peel, this semisweet Belgian Christmas ale would go great with ginger snap cookies and is a fine candidate for cellaring. Gazing at the illustration of the magi on the label, one can’t help but imagine an unrecorded passage of biblical history, in which Balthazar, at the last minute, selfishly changes his gift for the newly born king from Adoration Ale to frankincense, deciding it unbearable to part with such a treasure.
