LUCID Brewing will achieve an unexpected milestone when beer lovers across the nation will be traveling to Washington, DC for SAVOR: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience, May 9–10, 2014. This sold out event invites guests to sample innovative craft beers paired with tasty appetizers created by Brewers Association culinary consultant Chef Adam Dulye.
With only 76 small and independent American Craft breweries from 29 states and all regions of the country selected for the 7th annual exclusive beer and food event, Eric Biermann and Jon Messier, owners of LUCID Brewing, feel privileged to be part of this event.
“Just three hot summers ago, we were building trenches and assembling our brewery. To now be heading to the most prestigious US beer event, representing Minnesota Craft Brewers, is unbelievably awesome,” said Messier.
Additionally, LUCID Brewing is also part of a select group of brewers chosen to showcase a unique aspect of their breweries in SAVOR’s private tasting salons, limited to a small group of guests. Biermann and Messier will discuss their experimental brew that mixes beer and Frontenac Gris grape juice, aptly named Halucidation.
“We are both experimental by nature, so when we thought of how beer and wine have similar characteristics, we decided to try mixing them during the fermentation process,” said Biermann. In 2012, they used a pinot noir must. In 2013, Biermann and Messier consulted with Steve Zellers of Minnesota’s Parley Lake Winery and decided to use Parley Lake’s locally grown Frontenac Gris grapes. “During fermentation, we blended the juice of the grapes with a variant of SILO, our Saison,” said Biermann. With this newfound collaboration, LUCIDachieved a very interesting and great-tasting blend. Halucidation appeals to wine lovers as well as the core craft beer audience. It quickly sold out in their brewery. The 2014 Halucidation will be available this fall.
