Surly has announced that it is moving 2018 Darkness Day from its Brooklyn Center production facility to…Wisconsin?
The brewery announced on Friday that this year’s beer release party will take place at the Somerset Amphitheater in Somerset, Wisconsin, (35 miles east of Minneapolis) on Saturday, September 29.
“Simply put, we ran out of room at our Brooklyn Center brewery,” the company explained in a statement. “Cramming that many people and that many campers into an industrial park was a study in chaos and a credit to the very (VERY) tolerant businesses who share the neighborhood with us.”
Technically, there is more space at the Minneapolis brewery, but laws restrict bottle sales outside of the taproom. They were only able to sell Darkness bottles at the Brooklyn Center facility because of an agreement worked out with Brooklyn Center Liquors.
With the change in location comes a change in the event’s ticket fees. Meaning, you need to buy a ticket to attend, unlike in previous years. Purchase of a ticket allows you to camp overnight Friday and/or Saturday, as well as full access to the event. Bottles of Darkness will only be sold on Saturday, both classic and variants, prior to the official release on Halloween.
Ticket prices, band lineups, and non-Darkness beers for the event have yet to be announced.
