It’s no wonder how Surly and Doomtree decided to collaborate on a special beer. Surly Brewing and the hip-hop collective, Doomtree, are both crusaders of quality. Their missions are to provide an alternative to the bland dross filling our beer glasses and our headphones, and both have gained a fervent following along the way. Now, after nine successful Doomtree Blowout concerts, the hip-hop group is enlisting Surly’s help to go out with a bang for the tenth and final Blowout.
Details about the beer have remained under wraps since the announcement of the collaboration. Todd Haug, Head of Brewing Operations at Surly led the project and is “remaining tight-lipped about the beer style, but it’s a style that is fitting of both Doomtree and Surly—non-traditional and hard to classify,” according to Surly’s website. This was a year of collaborations for Haug, who created beers with other breweries, metal bands, and even Chipotle for their Cultivate Festival. If those other beers are any indication, the Surly/Doomtree beer will be another top-notch brew.
Today, Surly and Doomtree revealed new information on the beer’s release, which will take place during a Surly Doomtree Day Bar Crawl spanning six bars in St. Paul and Minneapolis on December 7.
