Summit Brewing Company releasing Hopvale Organic Ale

Trends may come and go, but session ales thankfully seem to be around for good. Summit Brewing Company is helping the cause with its release of Hopvale Organic Ale, a sessionable 4.7% ABV certified organic ale.

The beer is the newest year-round offering from the St. Paul brewery recently ranked the 28th largest craft brewery in the US. Summit Head Brewer Damian McConn crafted the recipe using organic malts, hops, and lemon peel in the late months of 2014 on Summit’s pilot brewing system, and the first production batch is on draft and in 16-ounce cans in the first week of April.

Hopvale Organic Ale“Summit’s ongoing commitment to using the highest quality of ingredients inspired the addition of an organic beer into our year-round line up of brews,” said Head Brewer Damian McConn.

Summit’s brewers are familiar with the organic certification process through experiences with creating Gabe Smoley’s Unchained 12: 100% Organic Ale back in 2013. According to a company press release, “The organic barley is sourced from Montana and Wyoming and the organic hops come from family farms in Washington and Idaho. The organic lemon peel, sourced in Southern California, adds an additional degree of complexity to the beer’s final profile.

“With the hop character of a full-strength IPA, but the drinkability of a low gravity bitter, Hopvale seeks to deliver a noticeable hop punch while being seriously sessionable at 4.7% ABV. Notes of grapefruit, pine resin, lemon rind and tangerine feature prominently in the aroma, while the malt blend supports a thirst-quenching bitterness.

Bent Brewstillery releasing Ol’ Guerrero Barrel Aged Chilean Double Stout

Ol Guerrero Stout Featured Image

Bent Brewstillery’s El Guerrero Chilean Double Stout is growing “older, wiser” after a restful stint in oak barrels. The newly reborn Ol’ Guerrero Barrel Aged Chilean Double Stout will be released on April 10 in the Bent Brewstillery taproom from 2:30–11pm (no cover).

According to the Bent Brewstillery website, the barrel aging process “balances the complexity of aged whiskey, strength of espresso, spiciness of smoky peppers, and sweetness of wildflower honey” in this foreign stout. Clocking in at 10.1% ABV and 40 IBU, it’s clear that the “Old Warrior” hasn’t lost any of its power.

Visit Bent Brewstillery’s website for information about Ol’ Guerrero, as well as taproom hours and directions.

PRESS RELEASE: Bauhaus to debut new winter seasonal Über Düber Bock

Bauhaus Uber Duber Hoppy BockPRESS RELEASE:

To kick off the New Year with a bang, Bauhaus Brew Labs announces the release of their second winter seasonal, the strangely awesome Über Düber.

Loosely based on traditional German bock beer—but hopped up and super funky—it is a 7% malty, smooth ale with some unconventional oceanic hop additions for an incredibly unique, hoppy experience. Black currant, cherry, and earthy flavors with a straight-up dank aroma, are supported by a rich and full malt profile. This seasonal offering genuinely defies any style category, making it a true Bauhaus original.

Über Düber 22 oz. bomber bottles will join the already available core Bauhaus beer cans in liquor stores starting in late January, but will debut at the St. Paul Winter Beer Dabbler on January 24th. It will also be available on tap at Bauhaus and select restaurants starting the week of January 26th.
