Wildwood Theatre Company joins forces with Chicago-based playwright Shayne Kennedy for the Minnesota premiere and second production of her vulnerable new play, “Handled”. The show will take place at the Off-Leash Art Box in South Minneapolis.
Developed in part through Leapfest, at Stage Left Theatre in Chicago, “Handled” is a dark comedy set in our modern, social media-obsessed world. It is the story of a teenage girl, Penny, returning home after undergoing a six-week residential course of treatment for depression and other issues. She discovers that her mother has created and maintained a Twitter persona for her while she has been gone–a bright, shiny, “life is good,” kind of girl. Penny attempts to get her mother to see her for who she is, while Penny’s mother attempts to steer her daughter around obstacles and pain, and toward happiness.
Human centered and relationship focused, “Handled” explores the very different ways we cope in this life and how much of our struggles we choose to disclose. Find more info at wildwoodtheatre.com/handled
