With well over 100 breweries now pouring their beer in Minnesota, there’s always something new to try. To keep you up-to-date, we present The Mash-Up—our weekly rundown of new beers and seasonal releases in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries. It’s impossible to sum up the local beer scene in a weekly update, but we try. This week is marked by big celebrations, milestones, collaborations and beers with butternut squash, peanut butter, apples, and a whole lot more.

Surly’s annual Darkness Day brings a social element back to their production facility in Brooklyn Center. Elsewhere, Town Hall turns 20, Waconia turns three, and Giesenbräu celebrates their grand opening. Other notable beers include collaboration beers from Leinenkugel’s, Lakes & Legends, and Talking Waters.

  • Squashy Spice – This milk stout includes butternut squash, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and vanilla before it is aged on hard maple honeycomb from Black Swan Barrels. Out today.

Alloy Brewing Company

  • Way East Coast IPA – Alloy brewed a fruit, juicy, hazy East Coast IPA using New Zealand hops.

Badger Hill Brewing Company

  • American Brown Ale – The latest in the Brewer’s Batch series, available in the taproom only.
  • PB Foundation Stout – A limited Wednesday infusion. Two kegs only, taproom only.

Bald Man Brewing

  • Strange Brew – Jalapeno cream ale, now on tap in Eagan.

Barrel Theory Beer Company

  • Citra Pale Ale – It’s all Citra hops in this 5.9% ABV pale ale.

Boulevard

  • City Market Cider – Available in 12-ounce bottles.

Cosmos Brewing

  • Crispy Dream – “A smooth and full flavored imperial ale that’s creamy, but not overly sweet. Notes of vanilla make this a fun palate pleaser,” says the brewery. 8.2% ABV, 14 IBU. Available in bombers.
  • Pillars of Creation 2: Lemon India Pale Ale – Brewed with Lemondrop hops and lemon peel for a full citrus experience. 5.8% ABV, 28 IBU, 22-ounce bottles.

Fulton Brewing

  • Barrel Aged Libertine – A limited offering Libertine, aged in Copper & King’s brandy barrels, on tap at select Red Cow locations.

Giesenbräu Bier Co.

This new brewery and biergarten opens its doors in New Prague on October 21 with seven beers on tap:

  • Festbier
  • Giesenweiss Hefeweizen
  • Spaceballs the Milk Stout
  • 31 Hour Pale Ale
  • Bavarian Gangsta IPA
  • Frickin Scruggly IPA

Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co.

  • Northern Battle Brew – This was brewed for the Vikings-Packers game and was served at the Corner Bar in U.S. Bank Stadium. Released last Sunday, “The beer has a deep amber color and malty aroma from a special blend of malts, including pale ale malt, caramel malt, Carapils malt, and a blend of 2-row and 6-row malts. To balance the malty sweetness, a variety of Pacific Northwest hops: Cascade, Nugget, and Willamette.” 5.25% ABV, 26 IBU.

Junkyard Brewing Co.

  • Galaxy Experimental IPA
  • Hop Habit – On nitro for a limited time.
  • Mexican Hot Chocolate – The latest in the Far Out Stout Series is a stout featuring cocoa, cinnamon, guajillo peppers, and serrano peppers.” Available in Crowlers in the metro.

Lagunitas

  • Born Yesterday – “A Newer New Dogtown Pale with a fresh addition,” Lagunitas says. The new pale ale uses wet Yakima Valley hops.
  • Eroica – A funkified Flemish Farmhouse ale, aged in red wine oak barrels with Brettanomyces yeast.

Lakes & Legends Brewing Company

  • Tequila Sunrise – A tequila barrel–aged golden strong ale brewed with agave. This beer is a made in partnership with Top Ten Liquors.

Revelation Ale Works

  • Blueberry Sour

Roets Jordan Brewery

  • Roets Apple – A kettle sour brewed with cider apples.

Surly Brewing Co.

  • Cask Tuesday this week featured Damien tea bagged with Simcoe and paired with Salsa Maria chicken wings.

Talking Waters Brewing Co.

  • Montevideo’s Talking Waters brewed a West Coast IPA in collaboration with WoodGrain Brewing Co. of Sioux Falls.

Tin Whiskers Brewing

  • Fourier Series: Dunkels Bock – This new beer comes out on Saturday, October 21 at 12pm.

Town Hall Brewery

Town Hall is wrapping up their 20th anniversary week. Special releases included:

  • Mon. October 16: Three Hour Tour, Six Hour Tour, and Blackbarrel Gold
  • Wed. October 18: Mango Mama and Tennessee Dessert
  • Fri. October 20: Anniversary Ale

Urban Growler Brewing Company

  • Pilsner – Urban Growler describes this new Hayloft series release as “Floral, crisp, and refreshing.” With Saaz hops it has a hop aroma with herbal and earthy overtones. 5.8% ABV, 20 IBU.

Unmapped Brewing Company

  • Flannel Roots Lager – Out on Saturday for the Flannel Roots festival.

Waconia Brewing Company

Waconia celebrates three years with a big DIPA. The party is on October 21 and will pour the following:

  • 180K Imperial IPA Anniversary Beer
  • Barrel Aged Cherry Amber
  • Bourbon Barrel Aged RIS

Fair State Brewing Cooperative

  • Giantsbane Double American Stout – This black and roasty stout hit the taproom on Thursday and will enter the can market on the week of October 23. 8.0% ABV, 50 IBU.

Fulton Brewing

  • Specter – A New England–style beer formerly known as Grog. Brewed in honor of former employee Greg Sincheff, Specter will be available in 16-ounce cans and on draft for a limited time, starting next Monday.

Inbound BrewCo

  • Double Fresh – A wet hopped IIPA debuts on Friday at Half Baked Day, a hoppy tap takeover at Inbound that will feature 14 IPAs in total. Double Fresh is 9.0% ABV, 78 IBU.

Lupine Brewing Company        

  • WHOADA Wet Hop IPA – Brewed with hops grown by Metropolitan Hops.

Pryes Brewing

  • Imperial Pumpkin Ale – This Small Batch series release debuts tomorrow, October 21. “With over two pounds of pumpkins per barrel, natural spices, and dark belgian candy sugar, this ale was crafted for sipping on a crisp fall day,” Pryes notes. It is Pryes first bottle release. 10.0% ABV.

Starry Eyed Brewing Co.

  • Fall Fling – A new wet hop IPA, tapped on October 16.

Stone Brewing

  • Dr. FrankenStone’s Monster IPA – For October only, Stone has blended parts from Ruination Double IPA 2.0 and Stone IPA. It’s sold in a special sampler with recipes for other unique blends. “[Dr. FrankenStone is] resiny and piney and complemented by citrus peel flavors, ultimately brightening up a truly iconic West Coast IPA flavor of monstrous proportions,” the brewery says. 7.6% ABV, 83 IBU.

Summit Brewing Co.

  • High Sticke Alt – A German-style malty ale will debut this fall inside the Summit Penalty Box variety pack. 7.5% ABV, 55 IBU.

Surly Brewing Co.

Darkness Day is upon us again. On Saturday the hordes hit Brooklyn Center for a Russian Imperial stout with chocolate, coffee, cherry, raisin, toffee, and hop notes. Darkness 2017 hits the market officially on October 23. Other Darkness Day pours include:

  • Candy Corn Imperial Cream Ale – This one-of-a-kind imperial returns to Urban Growler. The brewery says it is “smooth and strong with notes of caramel and a touch of sweetness.” 7.7% ABV, 17 IBU.
  • Jalapeno Cream Ale – A Plow to Pint series version of Cowbell made with jalapenos grown in Rushford. 5.4% ABV, IBU 20.

Wicked Wort Brewing Company

  • Hopfest – 6.0% ABV, 42 IBU.
  • Oktoberfest – 6.0% ABV, 21 IBU.

  • Cage-Aged Lager – Schell’s had some in-progress photos on social media this week hinting at their next cave-aged lager.

  • Tripel Abbey Ale – Out on December 1.

Bent Brewstillery

  • Barrel-Aged Dark Fatha – The barrel-aged version of Bent Brewstillery’s American imperial stout returns on October 28. This year’s version is 12.0% ABV, 57 IBU and will pour on nitro in the taproom. Bottles are also available on release day.

Copper Trail Brewing

  • Midwest Midnight – A milk chocolate stout to be released at the brewery’s Boos & Brews Halloween event on October 27.

Cosmos Brewing

  • Muttnik Porter – The “puppy chow porter” from Hugo’s production brewery. “Victory malt brings biscuit character, a large lactose addition mocks powdered sugar and roasted peanuts provide peanut butter flavor.” 6.5% ABV, 18 IBU.

Day Block Brewing Company

  • Poolboy Session IPA – This aromatic Bands That Brew series beer is described as, “Very light in color with heavy floral notes, citrus, and pine.” It releases on October 26 and will be featured at a release show by Poolboy on October 27. 4.8% ABV, 84 IBU.

Excelsior Brewing Company

  • Shattered Solstice Ale – Coming soon, according to Excelsior’s website.

Summit Brewing Co.

  • Unchained 26: Westie 7th – A Belgian-style named for Summit’s home neighborhood. “Featuring flavors and aromas of dark fruit, dark caramel, and rum, Westie 7th is brewed with complex, specialty malts from around the world, subtle noble-style hops, and Belgian candi syrup,” the brewery says. It will premiere in the Beer Hall on October 26 and hits stores in 12-ounce cans later this month. 7.5% ABV, 25 IBU.

Surly Brewing Co.

  • Cooper – With coffee and cherries, this is a Beer Hall only release on October 25.
  • Darkness – Darkness hits the Surly Beer Hall in a special format for Cask Tuesday on October 25.
  • Dumpster Fire – “This smoked IPA has an intense smoke aroma followed by noticeable heat from the addition of Puya chilies,” Surly says of this Beer Hall release set for October 25.

Wicked Wort Brewing Company

  • Dominator Doppelbock – Number 2 in the Wicked Wood Series, this barrel aged doppelbock was aged in High West double rye whiskey barrels and comes out on October 28.
