The Mash-Up: Breweries shake things up with experimental variants

With over 170 breweries now pouring their beer in Minnesota, there’s always something new to try. To keep you up to date, we present The Mash-Up—our weekly rundown of new beers and seasonal releases in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries. Visit growlermag.com every Friday for the latest or sign up for a weekly email.

Earlier this week, Bent Paddle hosted a limited release of Scandihazian, a joint effort with Portage Brewing, to help raise funds for a rebuild of Portage’s fire-ravaged brewery in Walker. That’s not the only beer news this week, though. There are plenty of new hazy IPAs and pastry stouts coming out but also big releases that show off how different ingredients change the flavor profile of a base recipe. OMNI has two IPAs made to compare hop traits, while Fair State and Wild Mind both have new stouts on the market with extra variants and Lupulin will unveil a similar concept in their William the Conqueror barleywine next week.

Meanwhile, breweries are starting to unveil spring seasonals, Sociable has a mead available at area liquor stores, and Valentine’s Day special releases are coming soon.

Each week, The Growler’s editorial team highlights five of the most tantalizing new beers hitting taps and store shelves that we’re most excited to try.

Clutch Minnie’s Saison (St. Paul)

A Belgian-style saison brewed with honey and orange peel with a light, citrusy refreshing character with a slight spice presence. 6.3% ABV, 23 IBU.
