Donut beers? The Science Museum and BlackStack Brewing working together? We’ve seen stranger things.

With several new hazy IPAs on the market, unique ingredient beers, and numerous fruited sours and hefeweizens quenching summer thirst, it’s a good time to be enjoying the Minnesota summer. Whether that means watching the Twins claw their way up the standings, hitting the lake, or going golfing, there are plenty new offerings this week to make those activities all the more enjoyable.

Here’s a taste of what’s out there.

Each week, The Growler’s editorial team highlights five of the most tantalizing new beers hitting taps and store shelves that we’re most excited to try.

BlackStack Brewing Thunder Lizard IPA

This Science Museum collaboration is a 7.2% ABV, double dry hopped IPA made with Minnesota-grown Mighty Axe hops. Pours a hazy straw color and bursts with Falconer’s Flight, Vic’s Secret, Azacca, and some Zeus hops. The beer debuted on June 5 at a special thank you event hosted by the Science Museum of Minnesota at BlackStack’s taproom. Limited supply.

Urban Growler Rhubarb Wit

The first Plow to Pint series beer, Rhubarb Wit is now an annual summer beer that is back on tap and will be in cans soon. “A Belgian Style wit ale that’s very pale and cloudy in appearance. The crispness and twang comes from wheat. The slight tartness in the background comes from Minnesota Rhubarb.  Highly carbonated and lightly spiced with orange peel and coriander, this is a refreshing summer favorite,” says the brewery.

Bent Brewstillery Sint Whosit

An amped up version of the brewery’s St. Whatshername, Sint Whosit is a Belgian strong golden ale that was fermented dry and conditioned with Brett. “Notes of gentle funk, vanilla wafers, bitter orange, white peach, an estery sweet middle yet finishing completely digestible and lecherously spicy. Clean cut, weak willed yet rippingly strong and thoroughly funky,” the brewery says. A single keg will be tapped at the brewstillery today, with 750-milliliter bottles hitting stores next week. 11.0% ABV, 35 IBU.

Brewing Projekt  & New Belgium IV

Colorado’s New Belgium collaborated with Eau Claire’s The Brewing Projekt on IV, the official beer of the 2018 Eaux Claires Festival. It’s a hazy pale ale that is available in 16-ounce cans now and will be sold at the July 6–7 festival as well. 5% ABV.

Dangerous Man Pineapple Hibiscus Donut Ale

As Dangerous Man describes it, “Pineapple Hibiscus Donut is an amber ale brewed with flaked oats, biscuit malt, candied sugar, lactose, hibiscus, pineapple, and of course 350 plain cake donuts.” 6.3% ABV, 25 IBU.
