With over 150 breweries now pouring their beer in Minnesota, there’s always something new to try. To keep you up-to-date, we present The Mash-Up—our weekly rundown of new beers and seasonal releases in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries. Visit growlermag.com every Friday for the latest or sign up for a weekly email.

There’s no concise way to summarize the variety in modern beer. Perhaps the final two beers in this list showcase that diversity best: a local version of an American light lager and a naturally conditioned sour ale.

In addition to variety, the beer scene is known for its creativity and collaborative spirit, both of which are also on display here. Brut IPAs are hitting Minnesota tap lines, with a particularly unique version by Modist. Meanwhile, 56 and OMNI have teamed up on “Zero Friends,” a hazy double dry-hopped IPA which will hit the festival circuit later this month.

That’s just a taste of what’s available right now and in the coming weeks, in addition to the popular seasonals back on tap at Bald Man, Burning Brothers, Inbound, Town Hall, and more.

Each week, The Growler’s editorial team highlights five of the most tantalizing new beers hitting taps and store shelves that we’re most excited to try.

Junkyard Lederhazen Experimental IPA

Brewed in collaboration with Drastic Measures Brewing Company, in Wadena, Minnesota, this 7.0% ABV IPA was just released yesterday and is available on tap and in Crowlers. “This New England style German-Hopped IPA is brewed with a tri-hop blend of Hallertau Blanc, Mandarina Bavaria, and Citra. The hop profile is filled with aromas of lime, grapefruit, pine and freshly squeezed oranges,” according to the brewery.

Modist Foeder Sour #1

Modist installed foeders last winter, and their first beer debuts this Saturday. This is a “sour ale brewed with 60 percent wheat malt and 40 percent pale malt,” Modist says. “Fermented in one of our American oak foeders with raspberries, passion fruit and vanilla bean,” this sour clocks in at 4.3% ABV.

Wild Mind Punk Tacos

Made with 336 pounds of blackcurrant puree, Punk Tacos is Wild Mind’s latest fruited IPA. “The acidity of the fruit brightens the herbal characteristics [of the hops] and brings a sharpness to the palate, while a drying finish leaves the tannic impression of red wine,” the brewery says.

Bad Habit Double Rather Ripped IPA

A double IPA variation of Rather Ripped Blood Orange Milkshake IPA, Bad Habit will be tapping the beer today from 3-11pm. The milkshake IPA from the St. Joseph brewery will be available on draft and in Crowlers.

Wooden Hill Hop Fizz

Brut IPAs are popping up on tap lists across Minnesota. The latest is Wooden Hill’s Hop Fizz. “Champagne and beer worlds collide: light in color, effervescent, loaded with Mosaic hops, and absolutely bone dry,” the Edina brewery says. 6.7% ABV and available since July 17.
