With over 150 breweries now pouring their beer in Minnesota, there’s always something new to try. To keep you up-to-date, we present The Mash-Up—our weekly rundown of new beers and seasonal releases in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries. Visit every Friday for the latest or sign up for a weekly email.

It’s not quite Memorial Day just yet, but we’re already thinking of hitting the road for a weekend vacation. A few happenings around the state for those looking for road trip inspiration: Schell’s is hosting Funk Junction Sour Beer Fest in New Ulm on Saturday; Blue Earth’s Oswald has released a beer for The National Day in Norway; and last weekend Voyageur released the special Double Amber in memory of a departed friend.

In other beer news, there are interesting new ingredients being used in beers at Dangerous Man, Wild Mind, and more; Summit has a new name-our-beer contest for this year’s Great Minnesota Get-Together, and Portage and Modist have come together for a special upcoming release.

Each week, The Growler’s editorial team highlights five of the most tantalizing new beers hitting taps and store shelves that we’re most excited to try.

Bent Paddle Tea Break Blonde

Released for Festiversary last weekend, this beer is now available in cans. As a part of their infusion series, the brewery’s approach to Tea Break Blonde is “a refreshing infusion of lemon zest and green tea for a driven complement to [their] Paddle Break Blonde Ale,” says the brewery. Citric and grassy up front, herbal on the finish. 6.0% ABV, 20 IBU.

Tin Whiskers Peanut Butter & Jelly Brown Ale

Tin Whiskers develops recipes through methodical experimentation. To wit, two versions of this PB&J brown ale, on tap today in a Fourier Series “Battle of the Batches.” At 6.3% ABV, Tin Whiskers invites visitors to try and rate both to determine the best recipe. Taproom only.

Continuing their theme of music-inspired beers, Bald Man’s Seasons In The Sun Hefeweizen takes its name from the tune popularized by Terry Jacks. This German-style hefeweizen is full of the banana and clove notes the style is known for. Now on tap.

Wild Mind Pass the Kvassier

Based on the low alcohol, traditional kvass in Russia and Eastern Europe, Wild Mind teamed up with Patisserie 46, using 60 loaves of German sour rye bread and Patisserie 46’s sourdough yeast culture. “Pass the Kvassier is a light, refreshing take on a classic style that goes down easy at just 3.3% ABV,” the brewery says, with “rich, spicy notes, a light tartness, and subtle stone fruit undertones to accompany the bready base.” Bottles go on sale Saturday at 12pm.
