The fire is dying, the kids are asleep. Time to reward yourself for a party well-thrown. Let’s stop in to Bardo where our cocktail columnist, Zachary Sapato, stirs up the perfect nightcap.
“Hechicera Rum has a ton of banana-coconut-tropical notes to it, but also the vanilla and caramel flavors you want from a barrel,” he says. “The dark notes of the aged rum, with its natural tropicality, combine well with the dark spice of the Montenegro. The bitters bring in some comforting sweetness and smoke.”
If you can’t find La Hechicera, Flor de Caña 7-year is a fine substitute. Amaro Montenegro is more citrus-forward than your average amaro—if you’re not familiar with these liqueurs, it’s a fine introduction. The resulting cocktail might be a little too sweet for earlier in the day, but as a send-off to sleepytime, it’s a dream.
